Preseason Trade Blitz

Once again it was time to trade Braves & Phillies with BobFranklin since it was round two of the contest at Sports Card Freaks. Unlike last time, though, I couldn’t help him advance to the next round. Still, it was a great trade:

We gave it a good try, Bob; thanks again for the trade!

In addition, I raided the trade bait page at Nachos Grande and flipped some Reds cards to Chris for these (and other) Twins cards:

Snow White And The Seven Packages

While on our Disney World vacation, seven packages arrived for me (they always arrive when I’m away from home). Before showing the trade packages, I thought I’d display a couple of the new Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards that are now being given out at locations in the Magic Kingdom. Each day, a person can pick up a pack of 5 random cards, which can be used solo or in combination at numerous sites throughout the park to defeat a villain in an attempt to complete a mission. The set contains 70 cards, the last 10 being short printed. We never did play the game, but between the three of us we managed to get 40 of the first 60 cards, with several duplicates that I hope to trade to complete the set.

A Trio Of Central Division Trades

Lately, I’ve been stirring up the trade lines and keeping the local postal delivery person busy, and some of the fruits of those trades are coming home to roost. Here are three from the good folks who cheer for and collect Central Division teams, two in the A.L. (yes, we in the AL Central can still trade civilly even though rivals).

I found a sweet Indians dual bat relic, and Baseball Dad from ALL TRIBE BASEBALL and I made a small swap with a relic as the kicker. Below are a few of the other cards I needed:

left to right: 2011 Topps Gold #132 Brian Duensing [0148/2011]; 1999 Skybox Premium #268 Doug Mientkiewicz; 2011 Topps Heritage #70 Justin Morneau

I had a nice collection of cards from Steve of White Sox Cards quite a while back, and wanted to send some additional cards his way, which I eventually did. Steve returned several back — well, he cleaned out some Twins junk wax 😉 but he included these two nice cards (I see a theme with them):

left to right: 2008 Topps Gold Foil #287 Justin Morneau/Johan Santana/Joe Mauer; 2011 Topps Heritage Chrome #C83 Justin Morneau/Joe Mauer [1921/1962]

FanOfReds from Nachos Grande and I have sent a few small packages back and forth lately, and when he flashed a sweet black border parallel Heritage card, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t gone through my blaster box singles for him yet; 1 SP and several singles that he needed crossed paths with some Twins, including these two:

left to right: 2011 Topps Heritage Baseball Flash Backs #BF-7 Harmon Killebrew; 2011 Topps Heritage Black border #C83 Justin Morneau/Joe Mauer

Thanks muchly, guys. Best of luck with your collecting!

Something From Dad, And A Cautionary Tale

[my cautionary tale follows the break at the bottom]

Baseball Dad (from All Tribe Baseball) and I have been toying with a trade for many months now, only to be thwarted by computer troubles, family events, natural disasters, riots, a National League World Series winner…you name it. Well, BD got fed up and finally just sent me some cards (your cards are on their way, btw!). It was a great mix of this-and-that — here are a few of them:

clockwise, from top left: 1997 Score Hobby Reserve #394 Matt Lawton; 2001 Topps Noteworthy #TN46 Harmon Killebrew; 2001 Topps American Pie #45 Jim Kaat; 2010 Bowman Platinum Prospects Purple Refractor #PP20 Kyle Gibson

Hopefully as we further sort through our cards, we can continue to swap cards with each other; we AL Central types have to stick together, you know.

Something Old, Something New…

Well, not something so much as someone. Trade packages #2 and #3 are from “old” friend Flywheels and “new” friend Fan of Reds:

One of those bloggers from the friendly neighborhood of card traders that I’d hoped to trade with someday is Fan of Reds at Nachos Grande, so when I saw he had a specific card he was looking for that I knew I had, we put together a trade for my Post Cereal Harmon Killebrew card and used it as an excuse to throw a few more cards at each other, including a couple Ginter-backs that I needed.

Flywheels at Cardboard Collections is a very easy trading partner for me; when I stumble across any Twins on his blog to trade for, he always manages to find a few others I need, and there have been plenty of Braves cards that I’ve managed to find to assuage his wants. Plus he has some pretty cool cheapo group breaks that I love to jump in on when they line up nicely with the sets where I’m weak.

This particular trade I hit him with several Yo Mama cards and other 2010 Topps inserts for a Topps Update Gold Valencia and some other nice cards he threw in.

Thanks for the trades, guys!
