These Cards Are Uncalled For!

FYI, a couple more teams have been added to my trade bait page in hopes of turning them into Twins cards from my wantlists.

Lately, I’ve been scrambling to come up with cards to send back as part of PTBNL trade packagess, and here are the most recent two:

First, hiflew of Cards from the Quarry sent me cards from JABO’s break; he had the Twins, and besides some Bazooka singles and a Mauer refractor, he ended up with a beautiful Scott Baker By The Letter manupatch/auto. I went through my Rockies trade bait and hopefully put together an appropriate response package. Yes, UD Doc cards were included!

Then, Night Owl from Night Owl Cards sent me a little package of Twins. I hear his whining about never coming up with any Twins to trade to me, and yet he had a goodly amount of this year’s Heritage base, a Topps Gold card, and even a couple UD Doc Gold singles that I needed. Again, I hope my return package aptly rewards that effort.

Thanks guys — check your mail in the next few days!

One last thing: I came up with another card collecting term that I think has been much needed. You know those unfortunate cards (usually relics) picturing a ballplayer in one uniform, but listing the player on a different team? What to call it? A cross-dresser card

Shiny Goodness

I contacted Laurens from Card Buzz about a Mauer Tribute card he posted at his blog, and he made use of my new trade bait page to pick up some Angels cards in exchange for the Twins cards he was trading to me. Among those Twins cards were three different refractors, a nice manu-patch with my childhood idol, an early Koskie AU card, and my first Polo Grounds insert from the Donruss Throwback Threads set — a nice variety of bling.

Romero [032/449]; 2012 Topps Tribute #51 Joe Mauer; 2011 Topps Heritage Chrome Refractor #C83 Joe Mauer/Justin Morneau [418/562]

Thanks for the swap, Laurens!

Four Sheets To The Dodgers Infield

Another blind package from Garvey Cey Russell Lopes — what’s gcrl been drinking?! In the package were a couple of real nice AU cards, several vintage (ones from my wantlist, too), and – sweet! – pocket schedules! Not only the 2012 Twins schedule, but the Spanish one as well. Very nice.

Well, time to round up another interesting cadre of Dodgers cards to send northward — thanks again, gcrl!

Have I Mentioned That I Love My LCS?

A couple more teams have been added to the trade bait page; still looking to trade for Twins cards from my wantlists. You can easily get to the lists just under “BASEBALL CARDS” in the dropdown at the top of each page. Let me know if you want a specific team added.

I stopped by my LCS Wednesday on the way to choir, and the owner had a nice handful of Twins for me. Besides the great AU/GU cards below, he had this year’s Heritage Josh Willingham SP card, too.

Three more Mauers to check off the list.

Manna From (Cardboard) Heaven

Just wanted to point out again, I have trade bait here and have added a few more teams; looking to trade for Twins cards from my wantlists. You can easily get to the list just under “BASEBALL CARDS” in the dropdown at the top of each page. Let me know if you want another team added!

Cameron of Cardboard Heaven and I had a little trade predicated by his post of an image variation card of Joe Mauer from this year’s Heritage set. It wasn’t a huge trade, but it knocked out a couple of the set’s harder to find Twins cards.

2012 Topps Heritage Chrome Refractor #HP100 Chris Parmelee/Pedro Florimon w/Lombardozzi, Pacheco [463/563], 2012 Topps Heritage Image Varation #186 Joe Mauer

You’re da man, Cam!

A Trade, And Trade Bait

My LCS owner handed me a binder full of inserts and s#’d cards to see if I could get some interest in them. In the past, he has allowed me to “check out” cards, which I either trade (and pay him for) or return untraded (“sticks” and “boomerangs” we call them). Well, I’ve decided to begin listing them here at “é rayhahn, rayhahn” in hopes of turning them into Twins cards from my wantlists. You can easily get to the list just under “BASEBALL CARDS” in the dropdown at the top of each page. I’ve only got a couple teams there so far; if you have something to trade, let me know what other team(s) you’re looking for and I’ll add them. Thanks for looking!

As far as the trade: I completed a second trade with cardjim from Sports Card Arena. For a Cardinals AU and a couple sweet Brock GU cards, Jim sent me the cards below:

clockwise, from top left: 2005 Playoff Prime Cuts Timeline #T-23 Rod Carew [24/25] (dual jersey); 2003 Bowman’s Best #BB-JDD J.D. Durbin (auto); 2003 Topps Pristine Uncirculated Refractor #146 Jason Kubel [0297/1599]; 2008 Donruss Threads Century Proof Green #141 Brian Duensing [069/250]

Thanks again, Jim!

The Four Horsemen Of The Dodgers Infield

The other day, I received a small package from gcrl of Garvey Cey Russell Lopes. It was hard to categorize: it appeared to be a team dump masquerading as a shotgun trade; a feel-good mailing that looked more like a junk wax extravaganza.

In the box was a well-balanced meal of cards from my wantlists: Topps, Bowman, Pacific, Upper Deck, Donruss, Fleer, and even an “oddball” Subway card that I’d never seen before. They were carefully packed between a slew of commons (and not-so-commons) that I’ll now have to find a home for. I gave gcrl good-natured grief about it, but the package was definitely appreciated. Here’s a sampling of some of the keepers:

clockwise, from top left: 2011 Topps Pro Debut #63 Max Kepler; 1999 Fleer Tradition #511 Benj Sampson; 2010 Subway Ron Gardenhire; 2003 Upper Deck Play Ball 1941 Series #35 Harmon Killebrew; 2002 Donruss Elite #71 Corey Koskie; 2004 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites #36 Harmon Killebrew; 1995 Upper Deck SP Championship Series #168 Pedro Munoz; 2009 Topps Unique Red #98 Denard Span [0222/1199]

You’ll get yours, dude. You’ll get yours! 😉
