What About Bob?

I went back to the well with Sports Card Arena trader BobFranklin, and for some more Braves and Phillies GU and inserts/s#’d cards, I received the following cards. (more after the break)

Autos:
I’ve taken a shine to the Beam Team autograph cards, and these were my first B&W and Gold parallels. Also, the Endorsements cards are very sharp looking.

Two By Two

(Hey, I have loads of inserts and s#’d cards from many teams; if you have Twins cards I might need, fire me an email or comment)

Here are four cards from The Bay of E and from devintolly from over at Sports Card Area. I rounded up over 30 Justin Morneau cards from my dupes box that he needed, and in exchange he had a nice Santana/Liriano dual GU and a Slowey GU. In addition, from eBay, a “lucky” bid on a sweet s#’d 5/9 Morneau GU and a Tom Quinlan auto card!!1!!1! That’s going in a screwdown in a hurry…

clockwise, from top left: 2011 Topps Triple Threads Unity Relics Gold #TTUSR-228 Justin Morneau [5/9] (jersey); 1996 Donruss Leaf Signature Extended Tom Quinlan (auto); 2009 Upper Deck Goudey Memorabilia #GM-KS Kevin Slowey (jersey); 2007 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Ultimate Ensemble Swatches 2 #ES-SL Johan Santana/Francisco Liriano [39/75] (dual jersey)

(Hey, thanks again Devin; those two bombs from Morneau the other day are hopefully a sign of things to come.)

An Excuse To Quote Dr. Strangelove

Ryan H. has been hiding out some Twins trade bait over at “O” No!!! Another Orioles Blog, it appears. To paraphrase Dr. Strangelove: “Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine Twins trade bait is lost if you keep it a secret! Why didn’t you tell the world, EH?

Why, indeed? Well, a little snooping at his blog and the gig was up. Ryan put together a nice package (see some below) and I was able to counter by putting a few Orioles cards in a better place.

clockwise, from top left; 2003 Bowman Futures Game #FG-MR Mike Restovich (jersey); 2009 Upper Deck Icons Future Foundations #FF-JM Joe Mauer (jersey); 2010 Bowman Chrome Prospects Purple Refractor #BCP76 James Beresford [344/999]; 2010 Bowman Topps 100 #TP94 Ben Revere; 2010 Bowman Draft Picks Blue Border #BDP92 Alex Burnett [119/399]; 3022 Bowman Chrome Futures Die Cut Refractor #18 Miguel Sano

Thanks! And advertise that trade bait a little better, dude. 😉

Get Thee Behind Me, Santana

Some nice (pre-Mets) Johan Santana cards from the LCS and The Bay of E:

clockwise, from top left: 2007 Upper Deck Spectrum Shining Star #SS-JS Johan Santana [37/99] (auto); 2006 Upper Deck Special F/X Materials #SM-JS Johan Santana (jersey); 2007 Upper Deck Artifacts Antiquity Artifacts #AA-SA Johan Santana [139/199] (jersey); 2005 Upper Deck UD Game Jersey #GJ-JS Johan Santana (jersey); 2006 Topps Allen & Ginter #AGR-JS Johan Santana (jersey); 2008 Upper Deck Game Worn Jersey #98-JS Johan Santana (jersey)

My first Santana auto; yeah!

Package Seven

Continuing again from a previous post

The final package to arrive, Package #7, was also from a Sports Card Arena trader, BobFranklin. Bob collects Braves and Phillies cards, so besides sending him a couple GU/AU, he got some inserts and almost 160 different UD Documentary cards of the two teams. Made for a hefty shipping cost, but in exchange Bob sent me 13 GU Twins cards. In fact, he still had others (I’m starting another pile to try tickle some more Twins out of him), so I had to do some prioritizing to decide which ones I wanted to trade for — a nice problem to have. Anyway, the loot — first, some nice s#’d and eye catchers:

clockwise, from top left: 2005 Fleer Patchworks Die Cut #PW-TH Torii Hunter [42/49] (jersey); 2005 Upper Deck Classics Classic Materials #MA-JM Jack Morris (jersey); 2006 Fleer Flair Showcase Stitches #SS-TO Torii Hunter (jersey); 2007 Upper Deck Artifacts Apparel #MLB-SA Johan Santana [190/199] (jersey); 2005 Donruss Diamond Kings #129 Jacque Jones [008/100] (jersey&bat); 2008 Upper Deck Spectrum Swatches #SS-BB Boof Bonser [49/99] (jersey)

Next, a few miscellaneous:

clockwise, from top left: 2004 Donruss World Series #WS-106 Shannon Stewart [154/250] (jersey); 2005 Donruss Timber & Threads #TT-15 Jacque Jones (bat); 2008 Upper Deck Game Jersey #99-JK Jason Kubel (jersey); 2008 Upper Deck UD Jersey #UDJ-CU Michael Cuddyer (jersey)

And last but certainly not least, a slew of Lew. (My avatar is pleased.)

clockwise, from top left: 2005 Donruss Zenith #ZB-54 Lew Ford (jersey); 2005 Donruss Leaf Certified Materials Mirror White #160 Lew Ford [224/250] (bat); 2003 Topps Bowman Best #BB-JLF Lew Ford (bat)

The ol’ Relic/Auto/Plate Havelist is filling up nicely. Bob, thanks for the trade, and you won’t get rid of me that easily!

Package Six

Continuing from the previous post

Package #6 was from yet another Sports Card Arena trade. serputzalot is a big-time Hanley Ramirez collector, and was interested in the Turkey Red cabinet card that my LCS owner let me have at a great price. The artist autograph and s#’d to 25 had a pretty stable price on eBay, so using that I chose three GU cards in trade. When a dual Killebrew/Morneau turned up missing, I was able to substitute for a couple nice AU and another Killebrew in its stead.

clockwise, from top left: 2006 Upper Deck Epic Materials Dark Purpel #EM-HK Harmon Killebrew [049/115] (jersey); 2005 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Bronze #32 Harmon Killebrew [33/50] (jersey); 2010 Bowman Sterling #34 Danny Valencia (auto); 2001 Donruss Classics Benchmarks #BM-20 Kirby Puckett (stadium seat); 2008 Upper Deck SPx Young Star Signatures #AC Alexi Casilla (auto)

And as fine as this trade turned out to be, Package #7 was bigger…

Snow White And The Seven Packages

While on our Disney World vacation, seven packages arrived for me (they always arrive when I’m away from home). Before showing the trade packages, I thought I’d display a couple of the new Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards that are now being given out at locations in the Magic Kingdom. Each day, a person can pick up a pack of 5 random cards, which can be used solo or in combination at numerous sites throughout the park to defeat a villain in an attempt to complete a mission. The set contains 70 cards, the last 10 being short printed. We never did play the game, but between the three of us we managed to get 40 of the first 60 cards, with several duplicates that I hope to trade to complete the set.
