If you have any specific questions about anything you see here, ask away.

The Kindness of Strangers

And really, who’s stranger than neighbor J, or K’s godfather Mark? Okay, that’s an old (and bad) joke.

Recently, J and family took a driving vacation eastward, and one of the stops included Cooperstown. Besides sending my cellphone a nice photo of Bert Blyleven’s new HOF plaque, he picked this up for me:

Commemorative Hall of Fame Weekend Program

Meanwhile, Mark’s family was up at the Twins Cities, and while there Mark saved the special Blyleven HOF edition STrib section for me:

Star Tribune sports section and Blyleven HOF special section

Mark also nabbed Morneau’s cup. Yeah, sorry, another bad joke.

Thanks guys!

Why One Jones Is Not Like Another Jones

Please tell me you’ve done this before. I was browsing and found a couple relic cards posted by previous trading partner Alan. For a couple Chipper Jones GU, he traded them to me along with a few other singles. A couple days after I mailed his cards, I realized I had mailed the two ANDRUW Jones GU from a separate trade that I am currently working on! After an apologetic email, Alan said he would gladly return the cards, and I threw in another Chipper GU with the previously agreed upon two. I hate it when that happens.

clockwise, from top left: 2007 Upper Deck SPx Winning Materials Bronze #WM-FL Francisco Liriano [160/199] (jersey); 2009 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions Memorabilia Series #GCM-FL Francisco Liriano (jersey); 2005 Fleer Tradition Cooperstown Tribute #7 Harmon Killebrew [0060/1984]; 2003 Fleer Platinum #153 Torii Hunter

Thanks again for being understanding, Alan, and sorry for the hassle! Thanks for the cards.

It’s Happening!

First, the email:

RE: 167 2/3 Bill Campbell
From: Radio Network
Congratulations, you have won a pair of tickets to the Twins game on Monday, Spetember 26th! Please reply to all with your address and phone number.

Thanks, and again congratulations!

Looks like that July 15th correct email answer to the Twins radio trivia question paid off. Then, the subsequent letter:

Minnesota Twins Baseball Club
Dear Twins Fan:
Congratulations on being drawn as a winner of the US Bank Question of the Day contest. Enclosed are your tickets. Enjoy the game and thanks for listening to the Twins Radio Network.

Go Twins!

The two tickets are for the first row of the Home Run Porch out in left field – sweet! Gene & I are already beginning to work out our travel plans. Can’t wait!

And speaking of the Twins radio trivia question, I answered another one (#11 this season) this past weekend. Q: Cesar Tovar broke up four no-hitters during his career; who were the pitchers in those games? A: Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, Barry Moore, and Dick Boseman

And The Golden Globe Goes To…

David’s won an Oscar and an Emmy for our previous two trades, and now he’s going for the gold…Topps Gold, that is. Last trade I discovered he had lots of early 2000’s Topps Gold singles on his website, and for a few relics and a slew of this year’s Allen & Ginter minis, here’s what I got in return:

clockwise, from top left: 6 – 2002 Topps Gold; 12 – 2004 Topps Gold; 2001 Fleer Ultra Gold Medallion #234G J.C. Romero/Matt LeCroy; 14 – 2003 Topps Gold; 2006 Topps Updates & Highlights All-Star Stitches #AS-JM Joe Mauer

I didn’t clean out all the Topps Gold from my wantlists that he had, so someday we’ll have to swing another trade. A little birdie has told me that he has a Big Event in his future, so if it means waiting for a while, well anything to stay out of the way. Thanks again, David, and good luck with the plans!
