Last fall, I pulled a Chris Johnson jersey/auto redemption card from a Topps pack, and of course I knew that Double-D (The Daily Dimwit) would like it. I let him know it was his for the taking, and when the card (finally!) arrived from Topps, we wrapped a trade around it. Not only did Dimwit have a great Puckett relic card to exchange, but he found a Twins silk card from this year’s Topps as well, and included several Gypsy Queen cards. I dropped by the LCS and snagged what I could find for his Kimball Mini and Gypsy Queen wantlists — hopefully I found enough to pass back from my end of the swap.

You always seem to make for smooth trades, Double-D; hope your “hostages” arrive there unharmed!

When Derek from Tomahawk Chopping – Cardboard & More pointed out a couple Twins chrome refractor cards he had, I countered with a Marty Prado relic in my possession. I already had one of the refractors, but Derek sent several base cards I needed, as well as…something else. Derek turned to the dark side of trading, and sent some Topps Walmart Black parallels. Now, this is a false night time that I’m sure Night Owl frowns on. Well, even though there are other parallel cards from a fine Minnesota-based company (say, Target Retro, for example) that are far superior, these, uh, black beauties below were appreciated. (Orange Refractor shown for darkness reference)

(btw, thanks, Derek. No, really!)
Somehow, between eBay packages, a couple trade packages worked their way into the Runner mailbox. The first was a small trade with Sewing Machine Guy of Sewingmachineguy on Cards website, an exchange for some new Heritage cards.
2007 Bowman Orange #202 Alexi Casilla [061/250]; 2008 Topps Chrome Refractor #9 Joe Mauer
Meanwhile, ShaneK at OFF THE WALL and I swapped relics, with several nice
players cards thrown in.

As always, thanks guys. And I know where you live…
I initially approached Ryan G of This Card is Cool about a couple Ticket to Stardom cards, and it blossomed into a larger trade. Unlike other trades, this one was interesting in that Ryan was looking for several items for his “one of everything” collection, and thankfully I was able to round up several things he could use.
In exchange, Ryan had some neat Twins: some 2011 and recent cards, a “Sample” Playoff Portraits card, some oddball Killebrew cards, and some other things that I didn’t have.

Thanks again, Ryan, and best of luck with your collection>
Continuing from a previous post, here are some more items I picked up off eBay, all with the goal of bolstering my “havelist” but keeping the price per card at less than $3 apiece including shipping.
The second batch, all relics:
clockwise, from top left: 2005 Topps All-Star Stitches #ASR-JN Joe Nathan (jersey); 2006 Fleer Greats of the Game Decade Greats #DEC-RO Rod Carew (jersey); 2006 Topps Turkey Red #TRR-JS Johan Santana (jersey); 2002 Upper Deck Game-Worn Gems #G-JM Joe Mays (jersey)

I pretty much never head to eBay for anything, but on a whim I decided to see what sort of Twins relics/autos/etc. I could dig up there on a budget in hopes of bolstering my “havelist“. I have to tread a fine line between picking up cool stuff, and maintaining spousal approval (some of you out there know what I’m talking about).
I started with Buy Now/Free Shipping and found one item, then next looked into anything cheap under Buy Now/lowest price+shipping, and lastly anything at all sorted by lowest price+shipping. When I did look closer at one particular card, I found several others from the same vendor as well, but the cumulative shipping prices would have been steep. I made him an offer on 14 items (at ~20% discount) which he accepted, and he gave me a reasonable shipping price for the lot as well. Finally, I’ve successfully bid on a few other outliers as well. All told, I picked up in excess of 20 cards for less than $3 apiece including shipping.
Here is the first batch, all autographed cards (including Lew, for a certain fan):
clockwise, from top left: 2005 Studio Private Signings #173 Lew Ford [2/50] (auto); 2006 SPx Rookie Signatures #129 Dave Gassner [299/999] (auto); 2004 Etchings Etched in Time #ET-JJ Jacque Jones [026/250] (auto); 2008 Moments and Milestones #RA-JMM Jose Morales (auto)
